Describe the two most interesting or unusual chapter mathematical activities this year:
At the Youngstown State University Regional Pi Mu Epsilon conference, February 23, 2013, Tyler Richard Ewing presented: “A Complete Characterization of the Sheffer B-Type k Orthogonal Sets,” this resulted in a paper submitted to a peer reviewed journal. Clayton Schuman presented: “Multi-Dimensional Predator-Prey Models.” Mark Dombrowski presented: “Determining Quantized Orthogonal Polynomial Solutions to a Difference Equations.” Gabriel Kramer presented: “A Walk in the Woods.” Each of these students also presented the above talks at the MAA Allegheny Mountain Section Meeting at Indiana University of Pennsylvania on April 5, 2013.
Do any of your chapter members plan to attend or present a paper at the 2013 PME national meeting at MathFest in Hartford, Connecticut?
Do you have any news about current students or recent graduates? For example, scholarships or other awards, acceptances to graduate school, paper presentations at conferences.
Katie Burbules and Kathleen Murzynski both received academic scholarships from the LORD Corporation for the previous academic year.
If you were awarded a PME Lectureship, Conference, or Prize Grant within the past year, please briefly describe the results.
