Describe the two most interesting or unusual chapter mathematical activities this year:
One thing we did this year was use our equipment for the Science Bowl we host each year to have a Math Bowl at one of our meetings. It turned out to be a great success, and all of the students really enjoyed it. Everyone enjoyed doing these fast-paced problems while learning new methods to solve them. Another fun activity we did was led by our adviser, Dr. Philip Yasskin. At one of meetings, he led a fun and interactive lesson about knot theory. He would have several students use ropes to create a knot, then he would have all of the other students figure out how to unravel the knot. It was a very interesting and fun activity.
Do any of your chapter members plan to attend or present a paper at the 2013 PME national meeting at MathFest in Hartford, Connecticut?
No.
Do you have any news about current students or recent graduates? For example, scholarships or other awards, acceptances to graduate school, paper presentations at conferences.
