Describe the two most interesting or unusual chapter activities this year:

1. “Mathsketball:” Because it is around the time of the “March Madness” college basketball, we had the format of a basketball game for our annual calculus competition. We had 8 participants divided into teams of 2, with a cash prize going to the winning team. 2. We held our annual Homecoming tailgating tent in the fall. These events bring the members of our chapter together with members of the faculty to enjoy the festivities before a TROY football game. At the tailgating tent we had a Troy professor organize a shrimp boil after catching the shrimp fresh the day before.

Do any of your chapter members plan to attend or present a paper at the 2009 PME national meeting at MathFest in Portland, Oregon?

Yes, Robby Doughan plans to attend and give a talk.

Do you have any news about current students or recent graduates, for example, scholarships or other awards, acceptances to graduate school, paper presentations at conferences?

Charter PME members(’04) Nick Newman and Julian Allagan will be receiving his Ph.D. in mathematics from Auburn University this year. Current PME member William McCurdy gave a paper presentation at the Annual Meeting of the Alabama Academy of Science.
