Activities: (1) At a PME/Math Club meeting, Dr. Brian Blitz gave a fascinating talk on the Mandelbrot Set. He used Bob Devaney’s Mandelbrot Set Explorer (http://math.bu.edu/DYSYS/explorer/page1.html) to showcase some interesting features of this set. (2) PME and the UAS Math Club celebrated Pi Day (3/14/15). There were a large number of circular and delicious objects (pizza pie, apple pie, marionberry pie, …) and there was an exuberant countdown to Pi Instant (9:26:53.58979…).

Do any of your chapter members plan to attend or present at the PME National Meeting this year? No

Do you have any news about current students or recent graduations? For example, scholarships or other awards, acceptances to graduate school, paper presentations at conferences, etc.
The two continuing members graduated in May. One of them, Andre Bunton, racked up a few awards since being inducted as a Charter Member last Spring. At MathFest 2014 in Portland, OR, he won a Pi Mu Epsilon Student Talk Award for Excellence in Student Exposition or Research. He was also selected to sing the National Anthem and be the student speaker at the University of Alaska Southeast Juneau Campus Commencement Ceremony. Several current and recent graduates (Andre Bunton, Nicole Jacobs, and Louie Scott) were coauthors on a paper which was published in Involve, A Journal of Mathematics (http://msp.org/involve/2015/8-1/p11.xhtml). This paper included results from the 2013 MAA National Research Experience for Undergraduates Program at UAS directed by our new PME Advisor Andrzej Piotrowski.

If you were awarded a PME Lectureship, Conference, or Prize Grant within the past year, please briefly describe the results.
