Describe the two most interesting or unusual chapter activities this year:

We had a pie eating contest in celebration of Pi Day. Students and professors raced to complete their pies. The first two people to finish their pie, flip the tin and read off the digits of pi that were written on the bottom won gift cards. We also hosted a Math Department bbq to honor graduating students and to thank professors.

Do any of your chapter members plan to attend or present a paper at the 2009 PME national meeting at MathFest in Portland, Oregon?

Yes, many plan to attend, and a few have expressed interest in speaking.

Do you have any news about current students or recent graduates, for example, scholarships or other awards, acceptances to graduate school, paper presentations at conferences?

We have five students continuing their education in grad school and one working in Portland.

If you were awarded a PME Lectureship Grant, please briefly describe what took place during the councilor’s visit.

Angela Spalsbury came to visit in March. While she was here, she met with officers individually and the entire chapter for dinner. She provided a lot of great ideas for events that we could do. She also gave a talk regarding math modeling of voting systems.
