Describe the two most interesting or unusual chapter activities this year:
In November, we held our fifth annual Math Formal dinner and dance. This event is a joint event of our PME chapter and our MAA Student Chapter. The evening begins with an induction ceremony, then we have a nice dinner, a math talk by a guest speaker, and then an evening of dancing. About 40 people attended, and we had a wonderful time.
In March we celebrated Pi Day Day rather vigorously. Our MAA Student chapter sells temporary Pi Day tatoos that most students wear during the day and PME sponsors a pie eating contest for anyone interested in signing up. In addition, we draw the digits of pi in chalk all over the main plaza on campus and meet in the evening to eat pie together.
Do any of your chapter members plan to attend or present a paper at the PME national meeting at MathFest in San Jose, California?
Yes, Michelle Jackson and Micah Martin.
Do you have any news about current students or recent graduates? For example, scholarships or other awards, acceptances to graduate school, paper presentations at conferences. :
