Describe the two most interesting or unusual chapter mathematical activities this year: |
One thing we did this year was use our equipment for the Science Bowl we host each year to have a Math Bowl at one of our meetings. It turned out to be a great success, and all of the students really enjoyed it. Everyone enjoyed doing these fast-paced problems while learning new methods to solve them. Another fun activity we did was led by our adviser, Dr. Philip Yasskin. At one of meetings, he led a fun and interactive lesson about knot theory. He would have several students use ropes to create a knot, then he would have all of the other students figure out how to unravel the knot. It was a very interesting and fun activity. |
Do any of your chapter members plan to attend or present a paper at the 2013 PME national meeting at MathFest in Hartford, Connecticut? |
No. |
Do you have any news about current students or recent graduates? For example, scholarships or other awards, acceptances to graduate school, paper presentations at conferences. |
