Describe the two most interesting or unusual chapter activities this year:
1) This year we re-started our annual Calculus Competition, after a one-year break due to Hurricane Katrina related problems. The competition was co-sponsored by all the science departments, by the dean’s office, and by Pi Mu Epsilon. The competition had two categories: Calculus I and Calculus I/II. Winners in the categories came from all the sciences and mathematics. We even had a Philosophy major among the winners.
2)Related to this was our Award Banquet and Induction Ceremony. All the participants in the Calculus Competition were invited to this evening event sponsored largely by the Mathematics Department. It turned out to be an evening of conversation and camaraderie between faculty and students with Mathematics as the backdrop.
