Activities: The annual Pi Mu Epsilon Lecture was held in conjunction with the Induction Ceremony on October 22, 2021. Our speaker was Dr. Lloyd Simons (Professor Emeritus, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Saint Michael’s College) who gave a talk entitled “Riemann Surfaces, Covering Spaces, and Dessins d’Enfants”. Monthly Department Colloquia are co-sponsored by Pi Mu Epsilon, and PME officers often introduce the visiting speakers. One highlight is the September Mathematics and Statistics Colloquium featuring presentations by five students who participated in summer research projects or internships, among them were three new PME members: Mitchell Andrea (’22) – “Investigating the Connections between Chemistry and Mathematics”; Maggie Burnham (’22) – “Bio-pharmaceutical Work as a Data Science Major”; Dylan Wawruck (’22) – “Advancing Interdisciplinary Connections Between Chemistry and Mathematics”.
Do any of your chapter members plan to attend or present at the PME National Meeting this year?
Do you have any news about current students or recent graduations? For example, scholarships or other awards, acceptances to graduate school, paper presentations at conferences, etc.
Samuel Berry (’22) will be starting a doctoral program in chemistry at the University of Michigan. Maggie Burnham (’22) will be working at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School in Worcester, MA, as a Research Assistant in the Lim Lab, which focuses on genetic disease research. Constantin Krogh (’22) will be pursuing a master’s degree in finance in London, UK.
If you were awarded a PME Lectureship, Conference, or Prize Grant within the past year, please briefly describe the results.
