Activities: These were more like the most "exciting" activities, given the difficulties of the past two (Covid) years. The Thunder Mountain High School and the UAS math clubs converged in November 2021, and the UAS Math Club finally went back to in-person meetings with a lot of student and faculty engagement on interesting problems.
Do any of your chapter members plan to attend or present at the PME National Meeting this year? No.
Do you have any news about current students or recent graduations? For example, scholarships or other awards, acceptances to graduate school, paper presentations at conferences, etc.
Amy Jenson (UAS BS in mathematics, 2020) earned her MS in mathematics from Montana State University, Bozeman, in Spring 2022. For her M.S. thesis, Amy adapted a subglacial hydrology model to account for saline fluid flowing from a subglacial lake. Amy was accepted to the Ph.D. program at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Geophysical Institute beginning Fall 2022. There, she will be working with Dr. Martin Truffer doing research on Greenland outlet glaciers. Amy also very recently had a paper published in The Cryosphere (a not-for-profit international scientific journal that focuses on all aspects of frozen water and ground on Earth and other planetary bodies) of her research as an undergraduate at UAS with Dr. Jason Amundson (see https://tc.copernicus.org/articles/16/333/2022/).
If you were awarded a PME Lectureship, Conference, or Prize Grant within the past year, please briefly describe the results.
