Activities: On May 2, 2025 the Colorado College PME Epsilon chapter held its annual induction ceremony. Drs. Liz McMahon and Gary Gordon, along with heir daughter, Hannah Gordon, gave a fun talk on the mathematics behind SET. We had a record number of inductees this year: twenty-five! This year’s math club highlights included: the annual spooky math escape room and pi day pi-k, as well as a SET tournament in preparation for the induction ceremony. We also held a problem-solving workshop with a visiting professor, Paul Zetiz. There was a lot of interest in problem solving competitions and we hope to tackle some of the PME journal problems next year with the great interest we have from some of our new members.
Do any of your chapter members plan to attend or present at the PME National Meeting this year? Unfortunately, we had no presentations in 2025 at JMM. However, we hope to have at least a few students attend and present at JMM 2026.
Do you have any news about current students or recent graduations? For example, scholarships or other awards, acceptances to graduate school, paper presentations at conferences, etc.
Our students have accomplished so much, it is hard to keep track. Here are just a few highlights. Galileo Fries (’24), Jingyi Liu (’24), and Cooper Doe (’23) successfully completed their first year of graduate school. Olivia Bouthot (’23) will be starting graduate school in the fall. Founding member of PME at Colorado College, Malcolm Gabbard (’19) received his Ph.D. from Kansas State University this year.
If you were awarded a PME Lectureship, Conference, or Prize Grant within the past year, please briefly describe the results.
