Describe the two most interesting or unusual chapter mathematical activities this year:
California Upsilon sponsored the 73rd William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition on campus this past fall. Eight Stanislaus students competed. Among the eight were five current or future (inducted this May) members of California Upsilon. Jessica De Silva, the chapter president earned a score of 10, tying her for 1360.5th place among 4277 contestants.
Do any of your chapter members plan to attend or present a paper at the 2013 PME national meeting at MathFest in Hartford, Connecticut?
No | |
Do you have any news about current students or recent graduates? For example, scholarships or other awards, acceptances to graduate school, paper presentations at conferences.
Jessica De Silva received a NSF Fellowship and will begin her graduate studies in mathematics at the University of Nebraska this fall. She also received the J. Burton Vasche Award. The Vasche Award, named in honor of the University’s first president, is presented to the graduating senior who displays the highest standards of leadership, cooperation, participation, service, and scholarship. Camila Reyes will begin her graduate studies in mathematics at the University of Tennessee this fall. Jo Fawna Reali will begin her graduate studies in mathematics at the University California, Santa Cruz this fall. Daniel Lee will begin his graduate studies in mathematics at the University of California, Irvine this fall. Susana Urquizo and Jo Fawna Reali received an Outstanding Presentation Award for their presentation “The 2-D smoothing of images via the total variational model” in the MAA Student Poster Session at the JMM in San Diego, CA in January 2013.
If you were awarded a PME Lectureship, Conference, or Prize Grant within the past year, please briefly describe the results. |
