Officers: Not applicable at this time. Niki Jacobs was the outgoing UAS Math Club President, and so was elected the outgoing Alaska Alpha President.

Activities: Installation of Alaska Alpha Chapter and induction of first Alaska Alpha PME members by Colin Starr of Willamette University, followed by a public Lecture by Colin Starr, titled The Nine-Point Circle and Feuerbach’s Theorem.

Do any of your chapter members plan to attend or present at the PME National Meeting this year? Yes. Andrzej Piotrowski, Christopher Hay-Jahans and Andre Bunton will be attending. Andre will be giving a talk about his favorite part of a 2013 NREUP paper (accepted for publication in the journal Involve). The talk is titled Simultaneous Generation of a Basis B and a Corresponding B-CZDS.

Do you have any news about current students or recent graduations? For example, scholarships or other awards, acceptances to graduate school, paper presentations at conferences, etc.
Niki Jacobs received a URECA award for her project: Depiction of fractals through art. The intention of the project was to generate an appreciation for mathematics and its applications at UAS. She accomplished this by using her award to screen print stunning fractal images on t-shirts and on UAS learning center vests. Niki also received Ron Seater Award, and was named the Outstanding Mathematics Graduate for 2014.
