Describe the two most interesting or unusual chapter activities this year:
During the spring semester the Michigan Gamma chapter instituted a bi-weekly Math Problem Solving Competition. The problems were posted on the bulletin board in the Math Department and cash prizes ranged from $5 to $20 for the first contestant to submit a correct solution. We hosted four talks for the weekly math & physics colloquium series. For one of these meetings we invited representatives from Auto-Owners Insurance to speak on actuarial science. The other three meetings were given by students who spoke about math topics including really BIG numbers, Goldbach’s Conjecture, and the Golden Ratio and Fibonacci numbers.
