Describe the two most interesting or unusual chapter activities this year:

Michigan Gamma sponsored four meetings of Eigen*, the weekly math & physics colloquium series. One meeting was “Meet the Math Faculty,” during which the faculty shared why they love math, how they became mathematicians, and their greatest mathematical achievements and failures. We also sponsored Pi Day and served pie and ice cream to many smiling faces.

Do you have any news about current students or recent graduates, for example, scholarships or other awards, acceptances to graduate school, paper presentations at conferences?

Nicholas Valles, our 2006-07 president, will be entering a doctoral program in physics at Cornell this fall. Danielle Wuchenich, our 2007-08 Secretary-Treasurer, will be going to Australia to enter a doctoral program in physics. Robert L. Wilson has completed a year of doctoral studies in inorganic chemistry at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with generous support from a teaching assistantship. Andrea Moore is headed to Oklahoma for doctoral studies in Environmental Science.
