Activities: We have partnered with the math department to host a YSU MathFest, which is an all-day “math conference” for high school students, where our members and professors present about interesting math topics. The YSU PME Chapter has always been an avid supporter of participation in national math competitions and this year, we have many teams and individuals who have successfully participated in COMAP and Putnam, in addition to our local competitions such as the Calculus Competition, Integration Bee, and Probability Competition.
Do any of your chapter members plan to attend or present at the PME National Meeting this year? Yes, our chapter encourages and supports our members who attend and present at the MAA MathFest. We have our members. We have members who will be presenting their individual research projects and their REU projects from the summer.
Do you have any news about current students or recent graduations? For example, scholarships or other awards, acceptances to graduate school, paper presentations at conferences, etc.
We have recent graduates who will be attending graduate schools such as Cornell University, Case Western Reserve, Ohio State University, and Youngstown State University. We also have graduates who are joining the workforce in fields such as insurance and finance.
If you were awarded a PME Lectureship, Conference, or Prize Grant within the past year, please briefly describe the results.
The YSU Chapter of PME hosts the regional PME Conference every year. The conference was partially funded by National Pi Mu Epsilon. Students from universities nearby are invited to present and all are welcome to attend. It is always wonderful to be able to learn and network with likeminded people.
