Activities: The annual Pi Mu Epsilon Lecture was held in conjunction with the Induction Ceremony. Our speaker was Dr. Daryl Deford (Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Washington State University) who gave a talk entitled “Graphs, Geometry, and Gerrymandering”. One highlight is the September Mathematics and Statistics Colloquium featuring presentations by five students who participated in summer research projects or internships, among them were PME members: Alvaro Rodriguez (’21) – “Summary of a Summer Internship in Madrid at Indra, a Top Technology and Consulting Firm”; Raeayn Warren (’21) – “It’s All About the Principals: An Overview of a CS-Related Internship”. Another highlight is the Mathematics Education Forum in March where a panel of six Saint Michael's College’s alumni discussed their reflections on their mathematics education experiences and how their liberal arts education helped them to prepare for teaching and related endeavors. Among the panelists, there were the following PME members: Thomas Raymond (’08) and Becky (Gates) Zumbach (’02).
Do any of your chapter members plan to attend or present at the PME National Meeting this year?
Do you have any news about current students or recent graduations? For example, scholarships or other awards, acceptances to graduate school, paper presentations at conferences, etc.
