PME Speaker/Delegate Application Information

Eligibility

In order to apply to be a PME Speaker, students must:

  • Have received approval from their Chapter Advisor.
  • Have been initiated and have paid membership dues by June 1, 2021. Graduating seniors are eligible to apply. Graduate students who wish to present work done as an undergraduate are also eligible, as long as they have not completed more than 30 hours of graduate work and have received approval from the advisor of the PME chapter at their undergraduate institution.

How to Apply

Go to the PME Speaker Application Form. During the application process, you will need the following information:

  • PAGE 1 – Basic Information
    • Your name, email address, and cell phone number. We often need to contact PME students about logistics, which is why we ask for email and cell phone.
    • University/College Name, State, and PME Chapter Letter. We will use this information to verify your membership status. If you don’t know your chapter’s letter, you can look it up HERE.
    • Your PME Chapter’s Faculty Advisor name, email address, and phone number.
    • Citizenship and Race/Ethnicity. This is only used in our grant report to the National Security Agency.
  • PAGE 2 – Abstract Information
    • The title of your presentation.
    • A shortened version of your title. Maximum of 30 characters.
    • Your Research Mentor’s name, email address, and phone number.
    • Your abstract. Maximum of 1200 characters. Please type in plain text or LaTeX.
    • Your research topic. Chosen from among the following: Algebra or Number Theory, Analysis (Real or Complex), Combinatorics or Graph Theory, Computer Science, Differential Equations, Environmental Science, Game Theory or Economics or Social Science, Geometry, Linear Algebra, Mathematical Biology, Numerical Analysis, Physics, Recreational Mathematics, Statistics, Topology.
    • This year, each PME talk should last 7-8 minutes and should be delivered by a single speaker. Joint presentations are not permitted.
  • PAGE 3 – Final Acknowledgements
    • Acknowledge that you should NOT register for MathFest on the MAA’s website.
    • Acknowledge that you should NOT submit your abstract at the MAA’s website.
