Describe the two most interesting or unusual chapter activities this year:
The one exclusive PME event was the initiation and luncheon. This year we were hiring, and so had six on-campus mathematics talks as part of that process. PME members were also active in math club events, including the annual croquet match against the chemistry and physics groups, pizza and problems nite, mathematical ultimate frisbee, a math club T-shirt, an inaugural mathematical “Battle of the Sexes” (which the women won), and the annual math majors picnic.
Do any of your chapter members plan to attend or present a paper at the 2009 PME national meeting at MathFest in Portland, Oregon?
No.
Do you have any news about current students or recent graduates, for example, scholarships or other awards, acceptances to graduate school, paper presentations at conferences?
Seven of our PME members graduated this year. Four are going to graduate school, 2 in math, 1 in econ, and 1 in vulcanology. Another received a Fulbright to teach math and English in Madrid, Spain.
