Describe the two most interesting or unusual chapter activities this year:
We organized our 10th Math Film Festival this April. The films included an animated version of Flatland (“Flatland: a Journey of Many Dimensions”, produced by Seth Caplan), and the documentary “Achieving the Unachievable” by Jean Bergeron, about a print by M.C. Escher. We were also able to screen four short films made by our graduating math major Laura Williams: “The Math Geek”, “When Harry Met Math”, “The Vampire Curse of the Math Zombies” and “Dakota Woods and the Theorem of Gloom”. As the titles indicate, these were quite funny! You can find the complete schedule at http://www.math.umt.edu/mathclub/filmsched09.pdf. And if you’d like to attend our next Math Film Festival, it will be on April 13, 2010.
Do any of your chapter members plan to attend or present a paper at the 2009 PME national meeting at MathFest in Portland, Oregon?
Do you have any news about current students or recent graduates, for example, scholarships or other awards, acceptances to graduate school, paper presentations at conferences?
