Describe the two most interesting or unusual chapter activities this year:

Our induction speaker, Dr. Steve C. Wang of Swarthmore College, discussed new statistical techniques that can help us to recognize mass extinctions—such as the one that killed the dinosaurs—from imperfect clues in the fossil record. Two students received positive scores in the Putnam: Dmytro Yeroshkin got 31 points and Sarah Hegarty got 1 point.

Do any of your chapter members plan to attend or present a paper at the 2009 PME national meeting at MathFest in Portland, Oregon?

Do you have any news about current students or recent graduates, for example, scholarships or other awards, acceptances to graduate school, paper presentations at conferences?

Dmytro Yeroshkin will be a math grad at Penn this fall. Sarah Hegarty will be attending graduate school in London.
