Eligibility
In order to apply to be a PME Speaker or Delegate, students must:
- Have received approval from their Chapter Advisor.
- Have been initiated and have paid membership dues by June 1, 2020. Graduating seniors are eligible for funding. Graduate students who wish to present work done as an undergraduate are also eligible, as long as they have not completed more than 30 hours of graduate work and have received approval from the advisor of the PME chapter at their undergraduate institution.
How to Apply
- Go to the PME Speaker/Delegate Application Form. During the application process, you will need the following information:
- PAGE 1 – Basic Information
- Your name, email address, and cell phone number. We often need to contact PME students about travel reimbursement logistics, which is why we ask for email and cell phone.
- University/College Name, State, and PME Chapter Letter. If you don’t know your chapter’s letter, you can look it up HERE.
- Your PME Chapter’s Faculty Advisor name, email address, and phone number.
- Your T-shirt size. You will receive a free PME T-shirt when you check in at MathFest.
- Whether or not you intend to seek travel funding from PME. Keep in mind that students may not receive funding from both PME and the MAA.
- Whether or not you will be giving a presentation. Keep in mind that each PME Chapter may send at most one Delegate.
- PAGE 2 – Abstract Information (Speakers Only)
- The title of your presentation.
- A shortened version of your title. Maximum of 30 characters.
- Your Research Mentor’s name, email address, and phone number.
- Your abstract. Maximum of 1200 characters. Please type in plain text or LaTeX.
- Your research topic. Chosen from among the following: Algebra or Number Theory, Analysis (Real or Complex), Combinatorics or Graph Theory, Computer Science, Differential Equations, Environmental Science, Game Theory or Economics or Social Science, Geometry, Linear Algebra, Mathematical Biology, Numerical Analysis, Physics, Recreational Mathematics, Statistics, Topology.
- Note, each PME talk should last at most 12-13 minutes and should be delivered by a single speaker. Joint presentations are not permitted.
- Note, PME Speakers must provide their own laptops or have access to one.
- PAGE 3 – PME Banquet
- Your meal choice.
- Any dietary restrictions.
- PAGE 4 – Final Acknowledgements
- Acknowledge that you must register for MathFest, using the link provided.
- Acknowledge that you should not purchase a PME Banquet ticket when you register, since you are already receiving a free one.
- Acknowledge that you should not submit your abstract at the MAA’s website.
